Have a look at this. These are some of the findings published last week in America, busting medical myths that we take for granted.
They obsess about health in America. Seriously - switch on daytime telly there and every ad is about tablets for this, that, and the other.
You want to be rich in the States, strike oil, or, open a pharmacy. Anyway, look at these.
Myth 1 - “You lose most of your body heat through your head.”
You know your Mum would always say to you before you went out in the snow when your were wee..."For God’s sake put something on yer head, you’ll catch your death”
Truth - There’s nothing special about the head and heat loss. You will lose heat through any uncovered body part......which you’ll know from being at Pittodrie on a midweek evening game. It’s the only reason to get the coffee - to thaw the frozen body parts.
Myth 2 - Controversial one - Sugar makes kids hyper. Apparently - not true. Numerous studies show sugar doesn't affect behaviour, but most parents don't believe this.
Myth 3 - The five-second rule. Food quickly picked up from the floor is not safe to eat. Oh no....I occasionally do this one with Josh. Scientists found that food that comes into contact with a tile or wood floor does pick up large amounts of bacteria. Food doesn't pick up many germs when it hits carpet, but it does pick up carpet fuzz. And we’ve got wooden floors. I can hear the vans backing up at our front door to take our child away even as I’m writing this.
Myth 4. Cracking your knuckles will cause arthritis.
Not True. Knuckle-crackers are no more likely to have arthritis than those who don't do it. They are, however, ten times more likely to get a punch in the face or their fingers chopped off.
